NARRAGANSETT – One of Rhode Island’s last original cabooses, part of the original Narragansett Train Station, is to go to auction on Saturday, Aug. 18.
Salvadore Auctions Inc. will auction off the Delaware and Hudson line-caboose from the early 1900’s to the highest bidder.
The caboose is fully restored and winterized with amenities such as air conditioning, heating and a television, according to a release.
“In fact, it is currently configured to be an apartment, and what a wonderful living space!” Michael A. Salvadore Jr., Salvadore Auctions president said in a prepared release. “The interior is restored and additional design elements including ships windows and portholes have been added to give additional natural light.”
“You can see the original train station in photos on the wall inside the caboose, during the time when the Narragansett Casino attracted thousands of tourist and gamblers at the turn of the 1900’s,” said Salvadore.
The caboose is currently stationed at the original Narragansett Train Station and sits on the original rails and railroad ties from the old spur line to Narragansett.
