Information-technology service providers are not necessarily known for cheerful and rewarding work environments, but Atrion Networking Corp. considers itself the exception.
Atrion strives for a supportive, community-like work culture in which employees can develop their skills and earn recognition from their peers. One example of this is Atrion’s Apprenticeship Program, a highly selective, six-month program that trains passionate, entry-level workers on data-center operations and certifications.
“It’s getting paid to learn,” said Tim Nicastro, a former Atrion apprentice and a current advanced -systems specialist. “It’s basically like going to college but working with people who are currently doing the job and contributing to the company’s growth and success. You start off learning the basics, and finish with actual field experience.”
Atrion also offers career-development opportunities and promotes staff growth via weekly one-on-one interviews with management.
“Our goal is not be stagnant – not focus on one thing,” said Nicastro.
Atrion designs, deploys and manages business-driven, customized technology services such as consultations, project management, training and education, telephony, software and application services and area-wide networks.
Staff earns monthly awards, such as the managers’ choice, employees’ choice, coach and Hedgehog. These awards recognize stellar attempts to perform beyond expectations by inspiring teamwork, influencing positive change, committing to excellence and unconditionally serving.
“It is kind of hidden behind the scenes. No one really sees the things that we do, so this is a way for employees to recognize each other,” said Nicastro. •
