38 Studios’ former employees in high demand

PROVIDENCE – Rival game companies are lining up to hire the recently unemployed staff of 38 Studios LLC, former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s embattled gaming company, according to Boston.com.

As 38 Studios laid off its entire staff of nearly 400 last week, rival game makers – including Needham, Mass.-based Turbine Inc. – held job fairs and reached out to 38 Studios’ employees on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

Unlike workers from other industries, 38 Studios employees are expected to quickly find work elsewhere, according to the news site.

“Generally, the demand for talent in the game industry outstrips the supply, especially when you get to a certain level of experience,” Michael Cavaretta, an attorney who represents video game companies, told Boston.com

Turbine Inc., Quincy, Mass-based Irrational Games and Sweden-based Avalanche Studios, hosted networking and recruiting events in Providence last week and Cambridge, Mass.-based Demiurge Studios told the news site that it is actively recruiting staff from 38 Studios.

38 Studios, which was lured to Providence with a state $75 million loan guarantee, laid off all of its employees on Thursday, May 24, after it missed payroll the week before.
