Books on the Square Manager Jennifer Kandarian rings up Katherine Schoppel of Providence. The Wayland Square business is a throwback to a time before digital technology changed so much of the publishing landscape. The bookstore founded in 1992 is a brick-and-mortar survivor, with a strong focus on fiction and children’s books. Owners Rodney and Mercedes Clifton bought it out of receivership in 2007 and after some lean years say the business is now breaking even.
