AAA: Gas prices climb 8 cents in R.I., 9 cents in Mass.

PROVIDENCE – An oil price rebound, paired with refinery slowdowns for seasonal maintenance, has led to an increase in gasoline prices nationally that has reached Rhode Island and Massachusetts, AAA Northeast said Monday.
This is the second consecutive week of price increases in those states, according to AAA.
AAA’s latest survey of gasoline prices in Rhode Island found that self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline prices are averaging $1.86 per gallon, 8 cents higher than last week. The Rhode Island price still is 9 cents below the national average for regular unleaded of $1.95. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 59 cents higher at $2.45.
Prices range from $1.73 to $2.09, with midgrade unleaded at $2.17; premium unleaded at $2.32; and diesel, $2.08.
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline prices are averaging $1.80 per gallon, a 9 cent increase over last week. A year ago, the average price in Massachusetts was 60 cents higher at $2.42.
Prices in the Bay State range from $1.59 to $1.94, with midgrade unleaded at $2.12; premium unleaded at $2.30; and diesel, $2.09.
AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip: The majority of cars run well using regular grade gasoline; make the switch and save money.
