PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island and Massachusetts continue to drop, declining 5 cents and 8 cents over the past week, respectively, AAA Southern New England reported.
AAA, in its Oct. 27 survey of prices, found that self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island averaged $3.16 per gallon, 5 cents less than last week, representing the eighth consecutive week of declines. Locally, prices are 26 cents lower than a month ago, but 11 cents more than the national average of $3.05. A year ago at this time, Rhode Island’s average price was 29 cents higher at $3.45.
Prices range from $3.04 to $3.40. Average per-gallon prices for different grades of gas ranged from $3.44 for mid-grade unleaded to $3.56 for premium unleaded and $3.66 for diesel.
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.10, an 8 cent drop from last week, representing the seventh week of declines in a row. Prices in Massachusetts are 29 cents lower than a month ago, but 5 cents more than the national average. A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average price was 25 cents higher at $3.35.
In Massachusetts, prices range from $2.92 to $3.43.
“We are rapidly approaching a $3.00 per gallon average in Massachusetts, with dramatic price drops at the pump in each of the last 3 weeks. That’s good news as we head into the holidays, giving motorists a bit more to spend on gifts, travel and basic expenses,” Mary Maguire, AAA Southern New England director of public and legislative affairs, said in a statement.
Average per-gallon prices for different grades of gas ranged from $3.39 for mid-grade unleaded to $3.55 for premium unleaded and $3.70 for diesel.
AAA offered the following fuel saving tip of the week: “Accelerate smoothly and brake gradually. It’s safer, uses less gas and reduces brake wear.”
