AAA: Gas prices continue to fall in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices are continuing to drop, falling 5 cents in Rhode Island and 4 cents in Massachusetts from last week, AAA Northeast said.

“Lower crude oil prices, along with record supplies and less demand as summer ends all are contributing to the lower prices,” Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, said in a statement.

In Rhode Island, self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.26 per gallon, with prices ranging from $2.11 to $2.44. Locally, prices are 22 cents lower than a month ago. Prices also are 4 cents less than the national average. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was $3.44.

Grades of different prices of gasoline are as follows: midgrade unleaded, $2.57; premium unleaded, $2.77; and diesel, $2.57.
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.20 per gallon, with prices ranging from $1.99 to $2.69. Locally, prices are 21 cents less than last month and 10 cents less than the national average. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was $3.40. Grades of different prices of gasoline are as follows: midgrade unleaded, $2.53; premium unleaded, $2.73; and diesel, $2.66.

AAA offered the following tip: Spark plugs must be in good condition. Some will last for 100,000 miles, but may need to be replaced more often.
