PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island and Massachusetts dropped 2 cents from last week, according to AAA Northeast.
AAA Northeast said that marks the first decrease in Rhode Island since the end of March.
Self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.79 per gallon in the Ocean State. Prices locally are 9 cents higher than a month ago and the current price is a penny more than the national average for regular unleaded at $2.78. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was 97 cents higher at $3.76.
Prices range from $2.67 to $2.99. Other grades of gasoline are as follows: $3.03, midgrade unleaded; $3.17, premium unleaded; and $2.96, diesel.
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.75 per gallon, the first decrease since the middle of May.
Prices locally are 8 cents more than a month ago, but 3 cents less than the national average for self-serve unleaded. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was 96 cents higher at $3.71. Other grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.95, midgrade unleaded; $3.08, premium unleaded; and $2.97, diesel.
AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip: Don’t top off your gas tank completely. In warm weather, fuel can expand and overflow.
