PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices fell 2 cents in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, the third consecutive week of declines, according to AAA Northeast.
Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.72 per gallon in Rhode Island and $2.65 per gallon in Massachusetts.
In Rhode Island, prices are 7 cents less than they were a month ago, and the current price matches the national average for regular unleaded. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was 93 cents higher at $3.65.
In Rhode Island, prices range from $2.49 to $2.99. Prices of different gasoline grades are as follows: midgrade unleaded, $2.95; premium unleaded, $3.13; and diesel, $2.92.
In Massachusetts, prices are 10 cents lower than a month ago, and 7 cents less than the national average. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was $3.59. Prices in the Bay State are as follows: midgrade unleaded, $2.88; premium unleaded, $3.05; and diesel, $2.90.
“The falling prices we’ve seen in recent weeks spell good news for vacationing motorists, who experienced the lowest July 4 prices we’d seen in five years, and can now benefit from mid-summer prices at the pump that continue to trend lower,” Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, said in a statement.
AAA also offered the following fuel-saving tip: Accelerate smoothly and brake gradually. It’s safer, uses less gas and reduces brake wear.
