PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island and Massachusetts gas prices fell another 3 cents this week, to $1.92 and $1.85, respectively, AAA Northeast said Monday.
In the Ocean State, the price drop marks the eighth consecutive week of decreases, while in the Bay State, it marks the seventh, AAA said.
In the past eight weeks in Rhode Island, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline prices have fallen 20 cents, to $1.92 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price remains 8 cents above the national average for regular unleaded of $1.84. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 19 cents higher at $2.11.
Prices range from $1.71 to $1.99, with midgrade unleaded at $2.20, premium unleaded at $2.42 and diesel at $2.13.
Over the past seven weeks in Massachusetts, prices have fallen 22 cents, with self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $1.85 per gallon. The Massachusetts price is 1 cent above the national average; a year ago, the average price in Massachusetts was $2.09.
“Crude oil prices haven’t been this low since 2003,” Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast director of public and legislative affairs, said in a statement. “Strong oil supplies, coupled with the lessening demand we typically see during the winter, are signs that prices could even go lower.”
Massachusetts prices range from $1.66 to $2.39, with midgrade unleaded at $2.18; premium unleaded at $2.37 and diesel at $2.14.
