PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices fell another 8 cents from last week in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, AAA Northeast said Monday.
Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.48 per gallon in Rhode Island, marking the first time since mid-April that prices are below $2.50. In Massachusetts, prices are averaging $2.41 per gallon; they are at the lowest point locally since mid-April, AAA Northeast said.
In Rhode Island, prices are 24 cents lower than a month ago, and 13 cents less than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.61. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was $1.05 higher at $3.53.
Prices range from $2.25 to $2.73. Other prices of various grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.81, midgrade unleaded; $2.93, premium unleaded; and $2.71, diesel.
In Massachusetts, prices are 24 cents lower than a month ago, and 20 cents less than the national average. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was $1.05 higher at $3.46. Prices of other grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.70, midgrade unleaded; $2.90, premium unleaded; and $2.75, diesel.
AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip: Proper tire inflation can improve fuel economy by up to 3 percent.
