PROVIDENCE – For the fourth consecutive week, gasoline prices rose in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, jumping 7 and 10 cents, respectively, AAA Northeast said Monday.
In Rhode Island, gasoline prices are at $2 for the first time since early January.
Rhode Island’s price is 5 cents below the national average for regular unleaded of $2.05. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 37 cents higher at $2.37.
“Rebounding crude oil prices, seasonal increases in fuel demand and reduced production due to refinery maintenance continue to be major factors in higher pump prices,” Lloyd P. Albert, AAA senior vice president of public and government affairs, said in a statement.
Prices in the Ocean State range from $1.87 to $2.07, with midgrade unleaded at $2.23; premium unleaded at $2.41 and diesel at $2.12.
In Massachusetts, gas prices also are at early January levels, as self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $1.97 per gallon. The Massachusetts price is 8 cents below the national average. A year ago at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was 36 cents higher at $2.33.
In Massachusetts, prices range from $1.83 to $2.29, with midgrade unleaded at $2.23; premium unleaded at $2.40; and diesel, $2.16.
