AAA: Gas prices resume climb, up 1 cent in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – The price of self-serve, unleaded regular gasoline in Rhode Island and Massachusetts increased 1 cent per gallon in the last week, according to AAA Northeast’s weekly survey.
The Ocean State per gallon price of $2.80, in addition to the rise in the last week, represents a gain in the price of 6 cents over the last month, according to the group, yet is 95 cents less than what it was a year ago. The current price is 3 cents more per gallon than the price across the nation.
In its weekly report, AAA noted that the price per gallon of unleaded regular ranged from $2.66 to $3 per gallon. The price for midgrade unleaded ranged from $2.86 to $3.15 per gallon while averaging $2.98 per gallon. Premium unleaded gasoline averaged $3.10 per gallon (and ranged from $2.90 to $3.55), while diesel fuel averaged $2.98 per gallon (and had a range of $2.90 to $3.25 per gallon).
Massachusetts saw its price for unleaded regular gas rise to $2.76 per gallon, 9 cents more than a month ago and 92 cents less that it was in the same week in 2014. The Bay State price is 1 cent less than the national price of $2.77 per gallon.
Prices for unleaded regular ranged from $2.55 per gallon to $3. Midgrade unleaded averaged $2.98 Monday in Massachusetts (and ranged from $2.78 to $3.20 in the state), while premium unleaded averaged $3.10 (and $2.88 to $3.40 per gallon) and diesel averaged $2.98 (and ranged from $2.78 to $3.30).
AAA reminded drivers to accelerate smoothly and brake gradually to save fuel, lessen brake wear and reduce the risk of accidents.
