PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island and Massachusetts fell 4 cents and 6 cents, respectively, from last week, hitting their lowest point since May, according to AAA Northeast.
Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.68 per gallon in Rhode Island. Locally, prices are 12 cents lower than a month ago in the Ocean State, but 2 cents more than the national average of $2.66. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was $3.61. Prices range from $2.41 to $2.89 in Rhode Island.
The cost of other grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.91, midgrade unleaded; $3.09, premium unleaded; and $2.87, diesel.
In Massachusetts, the price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.59 per gallon; prices are 17 cents less than a month ago and 7 cents less than the national average. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was $3.57. Other grades of gasoline cost as follows: $2.87, midgrade unleaded; $3.04, premium unleaded; and diesel, $2.87.
AAA offered the following tip: Don’t top off your gas tank completely. In warm weather, fuel can expand and overflow.
