ACE mentoring team in design competition

PROVIDENCE – ACE Mentoring of Rhode Island, a nonprofit that seeks to engage high school students to pursue careers in the construction industry through scholarship and grants, has announced that its northern Rhode Island team has been selected as one of three national finalists in the CIRT-ACE Design Competition for 2013.
The student team spent the last five months planning and designing Riverwalk Park, a new community park for Valley Falls with an amphitheatre, playground, café, and hedge maze.
“Congratulations to the members of our Northern Rhode Island team, who worked so hard and demonstrated tremendous creativity and dedication,” said Jim Barnes, a Rhode Island School of Design Professor and member of the ACE Rhode Island Board of Directors and chair of the curriculum committee.
A record 43 entries from across the country competed in this year’s contest. Rhode Island’s team will face off against teams from Iowa and Maryland in Washington, D.C. at the end of April. They will present their projects to a panel of judges who will assess the quality, presentation, and competence of the project entry.
