ACE students present ideas, industry mentors recognized

During the ACE Mentor Program of Rhode Island’s presentation night, held last month, 15 teams of local high school students presented concepts, proposals, drawings and 3D renderings of projects they created while under the mentorship of some of the area’s architecture, construction and engineering professionals.
Prior to the event, the students spent several months working with mentors to gain an understanding of the math, science and inspiration that goes into designing houses, parks and schools.
“The work that these students have done is remarkable,” said Mark Remillard, chairman of the ACE Rhode Island board. “It represents success as they took advantage of the resources available to them, developed strong relationships with their mentors and created something entirely original using new tools.”
During the event, mentors were also recognized for their dedication. Courtney Canatta of Gilbane Building Co. was named Mentor of the Year for the Northern Rhode Island program while Kevin Champagne of Pare Corp. was named Mentor of the Year for the Providence program. In addition, mentor and vice chairman Lance Aleksiewicz was named the Engineering News Record Exemplary Mentor Award winner.
