Adoption Rhode Island, an organization that supports children in state care and connects them to “forever families,” raised more than $55,000 at its 30th anniversary spring gala on May 3.
There were more than 200 people in attendance at the stately Ochre Court at Salve Regina University. Attendees enjoyed a night of dinner and dancing, but they also got to hear inspiring stories that their gifts helped make possible.
One of the highlights of the evening was a heartwarming speech made by Tiffany, an adult adoptee, and her mom. Tiffany reflected on the positive impact that adoption has had on her “forever family” and she explained that her adoption anniversary is celebrated every year. She mentioned that some of her classmates even used to wish they were adopted so they could have similar jovialities.
There was a silent auction featuring 38 items, including a Sandal’s Resort getaway and a Prada handbag; the auction raised approximately $9,000.
Adoption Rhode Island is a nonprofit organization that facilitates the permanent placement of children, providing both pre- and post-adoption support and advocacy, as well as raising awareness of the unmet needs of children. •
