WARWICK – The land slated for development around T.F. Green Airport and a commuter-rail station has a new name and website to market it.

The 95-acre former Warwick Station Development District is now called City Centre Warwick.

“Capitalizing on our existing economic assets to position Rhode Island for lasting success and prosperity has been my top priority,” Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee said at a Monday press conference to announce the rebranding. “The newly branded City Centre Warwick is one of the state’s key infrastructure and transit-oriented developments and is a signature project that will revitalize and redefine some 95 acres of land surrounding T.F. Green Airport and nearby transportation amenities.

“With its continued development, we have an opportunity to form a mixed-use, intermodal gateway to Rhode Island and the rest of southern New England,” Chafee said.

A $400,000 grant from the Federal Highway Administration was used to help develop the new marketing plan.

According to Mayor Scott Avedisian, the rebranding “truly reflects the city’s vision for the district – a lively commerce and multimodal transit center in the heart of southern New England that’s supported by a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood in which to live and work.

“Developing an identity for the district and having a dedicated website both to promote the area’s transit and pedestrian-friendly characteristics and provide critical information on business development and residential opportunities are vital marketing resources,” he said in a news release. “The market-segmentation analysis has outlined the district’s strengths and has identified key industries that will flourish in City Centre Warwick and the business innovation district.”

The new website, CityCentreWarwick.com, will help to market the land surrounding the airport, the Warwick Rail Station, the InterLink and Interstates 95 and 295 for development.

  1. Come on now! It is T. F. Green Airport-Providence. The Interlink was designed to bring passengers arriving at the airport to downtown Providence. Now it is Warwick Rail Station?

$400,000 for this but no effort by the Governor to market the Link- Providence’s I-Way development area or support funding for the Providence streetcar system.

What a gross display of earmarking money for his suburban home!

    Wake up leaders of Providence—fast!!!
