BRISTOL – Feinstein Leadership Scholarships, which will help Feinstein Junior Scholars attend Roger Williams University, were recently established by local philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein through a $500,000 gift made to RWU, according to a Monday announcement by the university.

Feinstein Junior Scholarships, given to elementary- and middle school-aged-students who pledge to do good, number close to 60,000 said Feinstein, “and I want to be able to give them as many college scholarship opportunities as possible.”
The Feinstein Leadership Scholarships will provide $50,000 per year for 10 successive years to Feinstein Junior Scholars.

This most recent donation is in addition to multiple previous donations by Feinstein to the university, such as the Feinstein Enriching America Program Fund in 1997, the Feinstein Institute of Legal Services Fund in 1996 and the Feinstein Center for Pro Bono & Experiential Education, that span more than 20 years, said RWU President Donald J. Farish.

He added: “As our commitment to serving the public has grown so, too, has Mr. Feinstein’s support … Feinstein Scholars exemplify everything we value about our students and our educational model.”

In fact, the university recently launched a $3 million campaign to support “civic scholars, whose work combines academic scholarship with civic engagement,” said Farish.
