Alec Baldwin helping Adams Memorial Library

CENTRAL FALLS – Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin is lending his name to a Baldwin for Books fundraiser for the Adams Memorial Library and visiting Rhode Island for the event.
Baldwin will attend a private VIP reception for sponsors at the library on June 7, and then present dramatic readings at the public literacy fundraiser at Fete in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood.
Baldwin first donated $10,000 to the library through the Alec Baldwin Foundation in 2011 in response to a New York Times article about its possible closing. A year later, Baldwin sent another $5,000 to the library as part of a fundraising appeal. In 2013, he gave $2,500 to help the Central Falls High School chess team offset traveling costs to a national tournament.
Funds raised on June 7 will be put in part toward the library’s CF Digital Project, which provides digital and media literacy for students of Central Falls and neighboring communities.
“We hope to start an all-purpose, public media lab in a currently unused building, but currently do not have the funding to make it happen,” said Stephen Larrick, president of the library, also known as the Central Falls Public Library.
“We are extremely grateful to Alec for his willingness to step up in a big way as part of an event that will help raise awareness and funds to make our dream of a public media center in Central Falls a reality,” Larrick added. “This center will provide the services our patrons need most, like access to computers and the internet for our residents, who too often don’t have these resources at home.”
“We are extremely grateful to Alec Baldwin for his continued support of the city of Central Falls over the past three years,” added Mayor James A. Diossa. “We look forward to his first visit and showing him the great city of Central Falls that is rich in history, diversity and entrepreneurial spirit.”
The fundraiser will start at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $45 for general admission online, $50 at the door and $25 for Central Falls students.
F?te is located at 103 Dike St. Tickets are available now online or at the door. To become a sponsor, contact joel@cflibrary.org. For more information, visit the library home page.
