CRANSTON – More than $1 million in donations have been raised from the sale of Alex and Ani LLC’s Charity by Design Living Water bangle, enabling more than 42,000 families around the world to have access to clean, safe water.
The news was announced this week by Living Water International, a faith-based nonprofit that helps communities in developing countries create sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene programs.
The partnership between Living Water International and Alex and Ani was inspired by former East Greenwich High School student Paige Dellerman, who focused her 2013 senior class project on connecting the jewelry maker with Living Water so she could learn more about Alex and Ani’s philanthropy.
Soon after, the Living Water bangle was created.
“Throughout our 25-year history, we have established many partnerships to help amplify our mission,” Mike Mantel, CEO of Living Water International, said in a statement. “We’re very excited to see our relationship with Alex and Ani hit this milestone, as it will play an important role in fostering improved public health and in strengthening communities around the world.”
In celebration of the $1 million milestone and to support an upcoming well-drilling trip to Haiti, Alex and Ani retail stores are promoting the Living Water bangle, which retails for $28; 20 percent of the purchase price of each bangle goes to Living Water International.
“Over the past four years, our partnership with Living Water International has evolved into not only generating impact and funding across the globe, but also in creating unique opportunities for our employees to experience the Living Water mission by traveling to countries to help their team drill wells and educate the community on the benefits of clean water,” Alex and Ani Charity by Design Senior Vice President Nicki Maher said. “Through first-hand experience, we have truly come to know and love the mission behind Living Water and have made it a priority to share this life-saving mission to bring water to the thirsty. Together with our customers, we have been able to bring more than 42,000 families access to clean water because of passion, action and love.”
Charity by Design is the philanthropic arm of jewelry maker Alex and Ani LLC.
