Alliance contributes to philharmonic performance

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Teachers Alliance has contributed $15,000 to help sponsor a performance by the Rhode Island Philharmonic Pops Orchestra on Sept. 13 in Slater Park.
The event is part of the 16-year-old Pawtucket Arts Festival. The Pops program is expected to include the usual mix of classics, movie themes and popular patriotic numbers, as well as “Stars and Stripes Forever” and Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.”
Mayor Donald R. Grebien thanked the education professionals in the Alliance for their support, which has continued over the years.
“Year after year, we have been very fortunate to count on the generosity of the Teachers Alliance for allowing us to present the Philharmonic Pops in the postcard setting of Slater Park,” Grebien said.
Teachers Alliance President Ron Beaupre and several officers presented a ceremonial mock check as well as a real one on Sept. 8 on the steps of City Hall.
“We are pleased and proud to again bring this great evening of entertainment to the community,” said Beaupre. “It’s always one of the most anticipated events of the Arts Festival and a wonderful time for the city.”
