Alves named president of medical staff at Roger Williams

PROVIDENCE – Dr. Cynthia M. Alves has been elected president of the medical staff at Roger Williams Medical Center. She succeeds Mark Braun, who completed his term as president on Dec. 31. Other officers elected were Andrea Doyle (vice president), Ponnandai Somasundar (treasurer/secretary and Medical Executive Committee chair), and Gregg Allen, Rajnish Bansal, and Ritesh Rathore (at-large members).

Alves’ expertise is in clinical, non-invasive, and preventive cardiology. She has sub-specialty training and board certification in nuclear cardiology. Alves trained at Brown University School of Medicine and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She completed her internal medicine residency at Roger Williams/Brown University, where she served as chief resident in internal medicine. She completed her cardiology fellowship at Brown University’s combined program in cardiovascular disease. She is a fellow of The American College of Cardiology.

A member of the Cardiovascular Institute of New England, Alves is a faculty member in the internal medicine teaching program at Roger Williams. She has held various leadership positions at Roger Williams, including service as a member of the Medical Executive Committee.
