Gary Jobson, an America’s Cup winner who is chairing the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 20th annual Leukemia Cup Regatta, will speak on April 8 to kick off the June event.
Jobson’s talk, scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Barrington Yacht Club, will cover a look back on the history of the America’s Cup, with special focus on the 34th America’s Cup which took place this summer in San Francisco; ocean racing; college sailing; speed sailing; some favorite sailing stories; a crash and burn video, and more.
Information will be available about this year’s regatta taking place June 6-7 at the New York Yacht Club in Newport. Last year, more than $242,000 was raised during this weekend. All proceeds from these events go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the fight against blood cancers.
Jobson first got involved with The Leukemia Cup Regatta in 1994. Nine years later he was diagnosed with lymphoma, which is now in remission. Since its inception, participants in the Leukemia Cup Regatta have raised more than $38 million to help advance the mission of the society.
Tickets to the evening’s presentation cost $20, pre-paid, with light appetizers and cash bar. Those who register their boats for the Regatta by March 31 will receive a Goslings Rum hat.
