Amica, Blue Cross event aids R.I. Community Food Bank

LINCOLN – Amica Insurance and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island collected more than 21,000 food items during Gobble Games 2015, a charitable giving initiative to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
Between Nov. 2 and Nov. 20, the two companies squared off in a friendly competition to see who could collect the most items. Blue Cross collected 13,228 items, and Amica collected 7,923 items. Those items were then donated to the Food Bank to be distributed to families throughout Rhode Island this holiday season.
“I’m so proud of everyone at Amica and Blue Cross for making this initiative a complete success,” said Robert A. DiMuccio, chairman, president and CEO of Amica Insurance. “Your generosity will make a difference in the lives of many Rhode Islanders this holiday season, and for that, I thank you all.”
Peter Andruszkiewicz, president and CEO of Blue Cross, added: “Thanks to some healthy competition between Blue Cross and our friends at Amica, we were able to help the Rhode Island Community Food Bank in their efforts and make a real difference for hungry families in our community.”
Blue Cross began the Gobble Games in 2013 as a way to engage and activate employees around the issue of hunger in Rhode Island. Since then, the program has collected more than 36,000 items, and it has become a signature component of Blue Cross’ annual support of the Food Bank.
“We’re so excited about the success of this year’s Gobble Games,” said Andrew Schiff, CEO of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. “It’s wonderful to see these two companies come together to help out neighbors in need, and the results are outstanding. Thank you to everyone who participated at Amica Insurance and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island.”
