Arpin first in industry to take assessment

WEST WARWICK – The Arpin Group recently became the first company in the moving and transportation industry to perform the International Society of Sustainability Professionals’ sustainability self-assessment, the company said in a statement.
The assessment came during a visit by society leaders, who worked with the company to measure its current successes, as well as assist them in charting a course for a greener future.
The society toured the Arpin Group headquarters to view the company’s green-focused renovations performed in 2012. The construction project added 2,834 square feet to the building, including a new media room, an expanded lobby and a new corridor connecting the office building and warehouse on two levels. Other enhancements included:
• A solar array, containing 912 solar modules, which provides 40 percent of the building’s electrical power.
• New roofing on the office building and warehouse with a highly reflective membrane that reduces heat gain.
• Insulated solar reflective windows that prevent heat gain while letting in more natural daylight. Skylights are also fitted with this special glass.
While it didn’t release the findings of the assessment, Arpin said in a statement the exercise was “eye-opening.” •
