The Arthritis Foundation recently presented an $80,000 research grant to the Division of Rheumatology at Rhode Island Hospital, during a ceremony at George Auditorium. The grant will fund supplies and equipment for the Rheumatology Research Lab, which seeks evaluation and treatment for rheumatological conditions.
This grant is the only Arthritis Foundation research grant this year in Rhode Island. In 2013, the Arthritis Foundation has awarded an additional $1.38 million in New England and $7.1 million nationwide in support of arthritis research.
“We are very pleased to be able to award this gift to the Rheumatology Research Center at Rhode Island Hospital and hope that this gift and their efforts will bring us closer to a cure for arthritis and its related diseases,” said Stephen Evangelista, CEO of the Arthritis Foundation. The foundation supports research, education and advocacy programs to prevent, control and cure more than 100 types of arthritis. •
