WARWICK – Atrion, an information technology services company, spotted a growing problem in the IT landscape five years ago.
“There was – and still is – an IT talent struggle,” Jamie Boughman, learning and organizational development manager for the Atrion IT apprentice program, said in a statement. “Companies are struggling to find the right talent and in the quantity they need it. There’s a shortage of people.”
As a result of this growing problem, the IT apprentice program was created. The program features a yearlong apprenticeship that develops strong technical and people skills needed for IT engineers, providing apprentices with recognized credentials and investing in their long-term skill sets.
The company is currently looking for high-quality candidates for its program that begins Jan. 5.
Those chosen will be part of a talent accelerator course designed to advance their IT knowledge during a 12-week technical boot camp comprised of extensive mentoring and 2,000 hours of on-the-job training.

“We are looking for folks who are going to really excel in this particular type of environment,” Boughman said. “If technology and networking is your passion and you have a desire to grow your career quickly, this is the place to do it. You could stay in the place you are now – treading water or babysitting a network – but if you want something greater and bigger, you can come to a program like this and fast-forward your career.”
“You don’t just come here to sit back, relax and let knowledge wash over you. Folks who are willing to put in the time, step up and be that rock-star engineer are the ones who are going to excel,” he said.
Apprentices will receive technical skill set training on everything from the Cisco CCNA curriculum to the Microsoft MCSA certification to the VMware VCP fundamentals; the curriculum alone is valued at more than $20,000. Those selected will get the chance to work intimately with Atrion customers, clients and leading executives.
