August passenger traffic flat at T.F. Green

WARWICK – Passenger traffic dropped slightly in August at T.F. Green Airport, with 51 fewer passengers compared with August 2014, the R.I. Airport Corp. said last week.

There were 332,195 passengers in August, a 0.02 percent decline compared with 332,246 during the prior-year period.

For the first eight months of the year, passenger traffic fell 1.2 percent to 2,364,789 compared with the same period last year, the airport said.

Among the major carriers, Southwest Airlines held the largest market share at 43 percent in August, but experienced a 2.6 percent drop year over year in passengers, to 144,334 from 148,109.

U.S. Airways had the next-largest market share at 22.3 percent, but also saw traffic fall, by 2.7 percent to 74,133 from 76,162.

Delta Airlines, with a 13.8 percent market share, was the only carrier to report a year-over-year passenger increase. Its traffic count rose 1.6 percent to 45,837 from 45,128. •
