Barry Costa-Pierce has been appointed director of the Rhode Island Sea Grant Program at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston. He will be responsible for providing overall leadership for the research, education and outreach activities of the Sea Grant Program, which has a budget of approximately $3.5 million. Rhode Island Sea Grant is one of 30 federal-state partnerships that make up the National Sea Grant College Program. He previously served as the director of the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant College Consortium. Costa-Pierce earned a bachelor's degree in zoology from Drew University, a master's degree in zoology from the University of Vermont, and a Ph.D. in oceanography from the University of Hawaii. He is a resident of Dighton, Massachusetts.
