Avon BHOP awards $65K grant to YWCA Rhode Island

WOONSOCKET – Marking the 23rd year of funding, a one-year $65,000 grant was awarded to the YWCA of Rhode Island from the Avon Breast Health Outreach Program to increase awareness of the lifesaving benefits of early detection of breast cancer.

“We are proud that the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade shares our mission and has chosen to support our program. With these funds, we will continue to provide health outreach, education and services to
medically underserved populations in our community,” said Deborah L. Perry, president and CEO of YWCA Rhode Island.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer found in women in the U.S., according to the American Cancer Society and, since July 1995, the YWCA’s ENCOREplus program has educated young women about breast health and refers them to local low-cost or free mammogram and clinical breast-health exams. Each year the organization helps more than 10,000 women understand more about the importance of breast health and aid more than 1,000 in accessing the lifesaving medical services they need.
