BCBSRI receives perfect score for LGBT equity

PROVIDENCE – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island recently received a perfect score of 100 on the 2015 Corporate Equality Index for the insurer’s successful commitment to LGBT workplace equality.

The score is an evaluation of employers’ tangible policies, benefits and practices as measured by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, and was one of only two perfect ones among Rhode Island companies.

BCBSRI’s nondiscrimination policy, executive performance appraisal model with a diversity and inclusion component, policy of offering health coverage for spouses and domestic partners, and gender reassignment surgery coverage were all reasons listed for the 100 percent score.

BCBSRI’s Chief Diversity Officer Visael “Bobby” Rodriguez said that diversity was a priority for the insurer.
