PROVIDENCE – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island is now accepting applications from local nonprofit organizations interested in participating in the company’s fifth annual day of service known as Blue across Rhode Island.

Carolyn Belisle, managing director of community relations for BCBSRI, believes the effort put forth by BCBSRI employee volunteers during Blue across Rhode Island is indicative of the company’s ethos.

“Giving back to the communities in which with live and work is a core priority for Blue Cross year-round. Through collaboration with our great community partners, our team makes real impact, finishing projects during Blue across Rhode Island that organizations say otherwise would have taken the full year,” she said.

In its five-year history, Blue across Rhode Island has generated more than 15,000 volunteer hours for nonprofit organizations throughout the state. On top of the supplied manpower, BCBSRI gives each participating organization a $5,000 grant for expenses incurred for the volunteer project.

Blue across Rhode Island will take place Friday, Sept. 23, this year.

Only community-based organizations which fit BCBSRI’s mission to improve the lives of Rhode Islanders will be considered for the role. Special consideration will be given to organizations whose missions center on children in need.

In order to qualify organizations must have tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status.

Applicants have until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, to submit their information to BCBSRI.
