TAUNTON – Bristol County Savings Bank employees recently held a “Drive For Local Troops,” resulting in a collection of 321 pounds of food items and 260 pounds of hygiene products. The items were placed in 33 large boxes and sent to the Rhode Island National Guard’s Company C, 1st Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment currently serving in Afghanistan.
A donation bag was placed in all departments at the bank’s headquarters in Taunton, as well as all 11 of its branches. At the end of the month, the bags were collected for sorting, boxing and mailing.
“I can’t say enough about how generous our employees were to this most-worthy cause,” said Elizabeth M. Yebba, vice president/information systems & technology at the bank. Yebba coordinated the drive and has a close family friend in Company C, 1st Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment. “The troops loved everything and I heard that it was a true morale booster to get snacks from home. The food didn’t last long I’ll tell you that!”
Company C, 1st Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment was deployed to Afghanistan in early March 2011. This infantry troop includes men and women from a number of local towns and cities, including Rehoboth and Fall River and Providence.
