LINCOLN – Landscape architecture firm Gates, Leighton & Associates is merging with Engineering firm Beta Group Inc. after roughly 20 years of collaboration.

GLA – Rhode Island’s largest landscape architecture firm focused on public, commercial and international hospitality – will formally function as a division of Beta and operations will move from East Providence to Beta’s offices in Lincoln and Norwood, Mass.

According to a company release, the addition of the GLA division will allow Beta to offer more versatile public and private improvement solutions and “expand the geographic footprint of the company.”

“Acting as a combined entity will help to better serve our clientele throughout the New England community,” Beta President Frank Romeo said in prepared remarks. “We are now a full-service firm with respect to visioning, planning, design and implementation.”

As part of the merger agreement, GLA President Donald S. Leighton will act as vice president of Beta and the director of the GLA division.

In the past, Beta and GLA have collaborated on projects including the Providence Performing Arts Center Square on Weybosset St. and streetscape improvements in Wickford.

“Our goal is to assist communities in creating a sense of place that will stimulate their local economy,” said Leighton.
