BJ’s donates to local nonprofits

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – BJ’s Charitable Foundation donated nearly $25,000 to four local nonprofits as part of a larger $1 million donation in the 15 states with BJ’s locations.

The charitable arm of the retail wholesaler donated to 166 nonprofits in hunger prevention, health care, self-sufficiency and education sectors, it announced Tuesday.

Locally, Providence-based Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island and Warwick-based Westbay Community Action each received $5,000, the Providence Public Library received $4,300 and Fall River-based Citizens for Citizens Inc. received $10,000 in donations.

“The BJ’s Charitable Foundation is proud to support organizations that provide care and crucial services for individuals and families in need,” Jessica Newman, manager of community relations for BJ’s said in prepared remarks.

Nationally, BJ’s Charitable Foundation donated $371,400 to 49 nonprofits organization that focus on hunger prevention to help with shelters, food banks, soup kitchens, and food purchase and distribution.

$278,800 was distributed between 45 nonprofits that provide temporary or emergency housing to individuals and families.

Seventeen health care organizations, including Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, split $94,300 from the charity to help fund supply purchases and health care screenings.

Educational nonprofits – that provide academic and vocational program opportunities for the disadvantaged – received $310,900 in donations from the charity.
