The New England rate also was lower than the national rate, which was 5.1 percent in September. That rate was 0.8 percentage points lower than a year ago, but also unchanged from August.

The three remaining New England states had smaller over-the-year declines, the BLS said.
In addition, three of the six New England states had jobless rates that were significantly different from the national rate – New Hampshire, 3.4 percent; Vermont, 3.7 percent; and Maine, 4.4 percent. They were among 19 states in the country with significantly different rates than that of the nation.
