BMC taking over emergency services at Corrigan

FALL RIVER – Starting in May, Boston Medical Center will take control from the state over emergency services at the Dr. John C. Corrigan Mental Health Center, 49 Hillside St., The Herald News reported Feb. 19.

It’s unknown if emergency services will still be offered at Corrigan or at another location.

Police Capt. Joseph Cabral said the biggest change is that walk-in patients to Corrigan will not be eligible for services.

The state Department of Mental Health will continue to operate Corrigan’s inpatient psychiatric hospital, counseling services and other mental health programs.

In 2016, DMH asked for bids to privatize emergency mental health services at Corrigan and two other facilities in southeastern Massachusetts. The move is projected to save the state $6.4 million in the first year.
