Babineau elected to UHC governing board


CHICAGO – Dr. Timothy J. Babineau, the president and CEO of Lifespan, Rhode Island’s largest health care system, was elected to the governing board of UHC, an alliance of 119 academic centers and 283 of their affiliated hospital organizations, one of five new members, UHC announced on Feb. 4.

“We are pleased to welcome these distinguished new board members to join an exceptional group of leaders on our governing board,” said Irene M. Thompson, UHC’s president and CEO. “It is through the strong leadership and support of UHC’s member boards that we remain an innovative leader for our hospital members. We look forward to the contributions of these driven leaders with their diverse expertise to continuing that commitment.”

Also named to the governing board were Lynn Frederick, hospital administrator for the Mayo Clinic, Kenneth P. Kates, CEO of the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Jeffrey Rivest, president and CEO of the University of Maryland Medical Center, and Amir Dan Rubin, president and CEP of Stanford Hospital & Clinics.

The new board members will serve a four-year term.
