Baker proposes DCF reforms

BOSTON – Gov. Charlie Baker has proposed systemwide reforms to the Department of Children and Families.

They include new intake and supervisor policies for the first time in a decade, and re-establishment of the DCF Central Regional Office.

“Systemic policy reforms are necessary to support the efforts of our social workers, supervisors and managers who are on the front lines protecting the commonwealth’s children,” Baker said in a news release. “Reducing caseloads, retaining and recruiting social workers and ensuring clear and concise policies for supervision and case management are all necessary to ensuring the agency is able to focus on … keeping children safe.”

Baker also requested an independent review of the recent Bella Bond case by the independent Office of the Child Advocate.
