PROVIDENCE – Seventeen volunteer Bank of America employees recently spent the day working at Crossroads Rhode Island, located at 160 Broad St. Crossroads is a nonprofit organization that assists the homeless. The volunteers helped in cleaning the entire area surrounding the facility, as well as the kitchen and dining area, the community room, and also participated in some large scale office tasks.
The bank has a community volunteer program to be proud of, with more than 30,000 hours of volunteer time donated annually in Rhode Island. That’s the equivalent of 15 full-time, year-round employees. They partner with numerous groups across the state. “We typically decide to work with nonprofit organizations,” said Kimberly Parkinson, a spokesperson for the bank. “Our volunteer program is very important.”
For Bank of America’s Community Volunteers, each worker is allotted two hours per week to contribute to the community. “I was drawn to Crossroads in this instance because of the nature of the people that work there as well as the clients,” said Robin O’Malley, a vice president at Bank of America. “When you are there you realize that some of the people don’t have a home or a job because they have come upon some bad luck, some bad circumstances. I think it’s a great organization and I love what they do for the community.”
