Trudy Rawles, Bank Rhode Island employee and cancer survivor, was recently presented with a ceremonial game ball as part of the eighth annual URI Pink Out event supporting the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.
Rawles was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. After undergoing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, she was cancer free the following year. In 2011, Rawles was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Last September, she learned that her body was entirely cancer free. This July, she’ll celebrate five years of being free of breast cancer.
URI Pink Out is a joint effort by the school’s athletic department, athletes, students, and community supporters to raise awareness about breast cancer. It has raised more than $60,000 for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.
“Our involvement in the Pink Out is important to everyone at Bank Rhode Island – so many of us have been directly affected. By supporting this event, it allows us to focus our efforts on a local organization that’s helping families right here in Rhode Island,” said Mark J. Meiklejohn, president and CEO for Bank Rhode Island. •
