BankRI scholarship honors colleague

Bank Rhode Island recently announced that it will award a $2,500 scholarship to an at-risk youth for participation in a one-year intensive training program for IT-skill development and workplace training at Year Up Providence.

The scholarship is in honor of Brian T. Squadrito, a senior network specialist at BankRI who passed away unexpectedly at 46 years of age earlier this year. Squadrito worked for nearly 14 years in the bank’s information technology department after graduating from Bentley University.

“Brian was a true IT professional and valued member of the BankRI team – it’s a tragedy that he left us at such a young age – the entire bank misses him dearly,” said Mark J. Meiklejohn, president and CEO of BankRI. “We are proud to honor Brian’s memory through this scholarship, which will help others realize their dream of working in IT – a field that meant so much to Brian during his life.”

Year Up Providence is a nonprofit that provides hands-on skill development, college credit, and a corporate internships to help students obtain livable wage employment, and enroll in higher education.
