New Bedford Community Rowing’s youth rowing clinics received a recent boost, thanks to a $2,000 donation from BayCoast Bank.

The funds will support the organization’s three week-long summer clinics, which introduce youth to the sport. For most participants, the clinics provide the first hands-on rowing experience they’ll receive.

“It’s something anyone of any body type can learn to enjoy,” said Anne Eisenmenger, executive director of New Bedford Community Rowing. “You don’t need natural talent to learn how to row. If you put your mind to it, you can do it and get the results.”

In addition to building self-confidence and encouraging teamwork, Eisenmenger said rowing can open the door for students to go to college or receive scholarships.

“We’re happy to play a role in bringing this program to the students of New Bedford and the surrounding areas,” said Nick Christ, BayCoast president and CEO. “Investing in our children and opening opportunities for them to grow is, and should remain, a high priority.” •
