PROVIDENCE – Bernie Beaudreau has stepped down after eight years as executive director of Serve Rhode Island, the state’s center for volunteerism, to become CEO of the Connecticut Food Bank in Wallingford, Conn.

He will start the new position on May 16.

Serve Rhode Island’s board of directors chose Nancy Stetter, who has served as the organization’s director of finance for the past six years, as Beaudreau’s replacement.

Ashley Greene, board co-chair, thanked Beaudreau for his leadership and dedication.

“I am immensely grateful to Bernie for his leadership of Serve Rhode Island over the last eight years. In this time I have watched Bernie work tirelessly to mobilize individuals and communities around volunteerism and national and community service. While Bernie’s departure will be a loss to Rhode Island, I am thrilled for him to return to the important work of fighting hunger,” she said.

At Tuesday’s board meeting, Beaudreau emphasized the success of the April 21 summer job fair for teenagers in the south side and west end sections of the city in what would be his final report for the organization.

A nonprofit organization, the Connecticut Food Bank leads the state in providing donated food to more 300,000 people across six Connecticut counties.
