BRISTOL – Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum has raised $2 million in its $3 million capital campaign to grow its endowment and implement a number of renovations, the estate announced last week.

The master plan improvements that the campaign seeks to fund include expansions of the visitor center and greenhouse, restoration of the shoreline and pier, updates to fire alarms, and greater handicapped accessibility throughout the grounds. The newly raised $2 million will set in motion the first phase of this set of capital projects.

Among the campaign’s top donors thus far are the Champlin Foundations, which provided a $400,000 challenge grant, and Dorrance H. Hamilton, who donated a $300,000 challenge grant.

The campaign now moves into its public phase, asking for support from individuals and corporations around the state.

Campaign co-chair and Blithewold board member Arthur Parker said in a statement that the campaign’s success is due to “the extraordinary generosity of many donors, volunteers, the board of directors and the campaign steering committee.”
