BRISTOL – Blithewold Mansions, Garden and Arboretum’s biannual grand tour gala, the organization’s largest fundraising event, raised $180,000 to benefit preservation of the mansion, the 33-acre estate and Van Wickle family history.

Held on Aug. 13, the event’s theme was a celebration of Marjorie Van Wickle’s 1903-04 visit to Europe aboard the S.S. Deutschland. Decades by Dezyne played music for the 410 guests who dined on a dinner by Russell Morin Fine Catering.

The Champlin Foundations, a nonprofit organization supporting social services agencies, historical societies, libraries, the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts as well as the YMCA, among others, through financial grants, was honored for its philanthropy by Blithewold.

Bristol residents Jonathon Birs, a member of Blithewold’s board of directors, and Melinda Birs served as the gala co-chairs.
