It might seem odd for a business that began more than a century ago to suddenly be named one of the fastest-growing companies in the area, but such is the case for Blount Fine Foods, a Fall River-based manufacturer of gourmet soups, sides and entrées. Between 2013 and 2015, the company increased sales more than 56 percent.

While the Blount brand is probably best known locally for its clam shacks and markets (there are three retail locations – in East Providence, Warren and Fall River), the company does the bulk of its business behind the scenes, producing soups for grocery stores, restaurant chains and various retailers throughout the United States. In fact, Blount, with about 450 employees, is now the largest producer of clam chowder in New England and the largest manufacturer of lobster bisque in the country.

The family-run company has clearly come a long way since its early days as an oyster-packing firm in Barrington, and the future, according to CEO and President Todd Blount, looks equally bright.

“A lot of the growth has come from us being ahead of the curve in terms of recipe development and nutrition trends,” he said. “What we’re really excited about now is rebranding the Blount brand locally, here at home.” •
