BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Bluff Head Enterprises Inc., a Wakefield-based employee benefit consulting and brokerage firm specializing in middle-market businesses, was acquired on Tuesday.

The company was acquired for an undisclosed price by USI Insurance Services, headquartered in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., and with a USI Retail location in East Greenwich that employs 51. A year ago, USI acquired Mastors & Servant Risk Services Ltd., an independent insurance agency that specialized in commercial property and casualty, bond and employee benefits insurance for midsized companies.

As part of the deal, Bluff Head President Samuel B. Slade joined USI of Rhode Island as president of the employee benefits division. Its other two employees, Patrick Canavan and Michael Micgiel, will also join USI.

“The combination of our two strong employee benefit practices will enable us to offer our clients additional products and services. USI is an excellent fit for BHEs’ clients and employees. By joining the USI team, BHE will continue its tradition of superior client service. We look forward to working with USI to bring our customers enhanced product and service capabilities,” Slade said in a news release.

USI, founded in 1994, is a portfolio company of Goldman Sachs Capital Partners and has 80 offices in 23 states.
