PROVIDENCE – The “Hell Paitan” on Ken’s Ramen on Washington Street is one of the best places in the country to find a dish of “uncommon ramen,” according to Bon Appetit’s “Eat Like a Local” feature.
The food magazine identified eight restaurants around the country specializing in ramen dishes, placing Ken’s Ramen first on the list for its Hell Paitan, which it described as a “30-hour broth with kikurage mushrooms, nori and chili oil (the hell part).”
Restaurants in Austin, Texas; Denver and Oakland, Calif., also were recognized. The full list can be found HERE.

Eat Like a Local writer Amiel Stanek said, “There was a time when ramen was niche, the territory of homesick expats and manga-reading Americans. But the country has officially gone Ramen Crazy. Whether you’re in Denver or Kansas City, you can’t chuck a six-minute egg without hitting some new Japanese soup joint … wherever you are in the U.S., there’s a bowl of soulful broth and irresistibly chewy noodles waiting for you.”
